Encore is a remote control for Bose SoundTouch speakers on your own network. It has no
account, no sign-in and no server of its own. Your speakers, stations, presets, queues and
settings are stored only on your device and on your own network, and nothing you play is
recorded anywhere.
What stays on your device
Everything the app remembers: the speakers it has found and their
addresses, your saved stations, recently played items, playback queues, and every app
setting including theme and layout.
Your music: when you play music stored on your phone, the app serves
those files directly to your speakers over your own local network. They are never uploaded
anywhere.
The diagnostic log: the app keeps a short log in memory to help work
out why something failed. It never leaves the device unless you tap Export and choose
somewhere to send it yourself.
What leaves your network
Station search: if you search for internet radio stations, the words
you type are sent to the community-run
Radio‑Browser directory to find
matches. That request carries the search terms and nothing else: no identifier, no speaker
names, no location.
Radio streams: playing an internet radio station connects to that
station's own streaming server, which is operated by the station and not by us. Some
stations use secure connections that the speakers cannot open themselves, in which case
your phone fetches the stream and passes it to the speaker on your own network.
What we do not collect
We collect nothing. There is no account, no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising
and no advertising identifier in this app, and it contains no third-party tracking or
advertising libraries of any kind. No usage data, device identifier, file name, search term,
song title or network address is ever sent to us, because there is no server of ours for it
to be sent to.
Permissions, and why
Local network and nearby devices: to find your speakers and talk to
them. This is what the app is for, and it is used for nothing else.
Music and audio: only if you choose to play music stored on your
phone. Declining costs you that one feature and nothing else.
Notifications: to show playback controls, and to show a notice while
your phone is streaming audio to a speaker.
Internet: for station search and for internet radio streams, as
described above.
Data retention and deletion
Everything the app remembers is stored only on your device. Uninstalling the app
permanently deletes it. We hold nothing about you on any server, so there is nothing for you
to request or for us to delete.
Children
Encore is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal
information from anyone.
