Privacy Policy for Encore

Effective date: 14 October 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how Encore (“the App”), an Android application for controlling Bose SoundTouch speakers, handles information. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to the developer of the App as identified on its Google Play listing.

1. Summary

The App does not require an account and does not collect personal information. It operates on your local network, and the information it uses to function is stored on your device. The only information we receive is limited technical data about errors in the App, which does not identify you.

2. Information stored on your device

The App stores the information it needs to operate, including details of the speakers on your network, saved stations, playback history and queues, recordings you choose to keep, and your settings. This information remains on your device and on your local network. We do not have access to it.

Music and recordings on your device are played to your speakers over your local network and are not uploaded to us or to any other party.

3. Information we collect

To maintain the reliability of the App, it sends us technical diagnostic data when an error occurs. This consists of:

Diagnostic data is designed to exclude personal information. It does not include your name, contact details, location, speaker or station names, the content you play, search terms, file names or network addresses.

Feedback you choose to send. If you send feedback from within the App, we receive the message you write, the kind of feedback you selected, the screen it was sent from, the App and Android versions, your phone model and the model names of your speakers. Room names, network addresses and account details are not sent, and the random identifier is used only to limit how many messages one installation can send in a day; it is not stored with your message. Please do not include personal information in your message, as there is no way for us to reply to it.

4. How we use information

Diagnostic data is used solely to identify, diagnose and correct faults in the App. It is not used for advertising, profiling or analytics about individuals, and it is not sold or shared with third parties for their own purposes. Where the law requires a legal basis, we rely on our legitimate interest in maintaining a functioning and reliable App. Feedback is used to understand problems and to decide what to improve, on the basis of your choice to send it.

5. Third-party services

Certain features connect to services operated by third parties, which receive the information necessary to provide them, including your device’s IP address:

These services are governed by their own privacy policies. Diagnostic data is processed on our behalf by infrastructure service providers, which may process it outside your country of residence.

6. Permissions

The App requests only the permissions required for its features: local network access, to discover and control your speakers; access to audio files, to play music stored on your device; the microphone, only when you record an announcement; notifications, for playback controls; and internet access, for the services described above. Optional permissions may be declined, and the remainder of the App will continue to function.

7. Data retention

Information stored on your device is retained until you delete it or uninstall the App. Crash and error reports are retained for as long as necessary to resolve the fault concerned. Aggregated statistics are deleted within 90 days, and the random identifier is deleted within one day of receipt. Feedback is retained for as long as it is useful in improving the App.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or object to the processing of your personal information, and to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. Because diagnostic data does not identify you, we are generally unable to associate it with an individual. You may contact us with any request or question using the details below.

9. Children

The App is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be available at this address, and the effective date above will be revised accordingly.
